Williamnagar, April 5: The NPP has received a shot in the arm ahead of next year’s assembly elections with a former candidate who was runners up from Williamnagar seat in the 2018 polls joining the party in the presence of chief minister Conrad K Sangma.
Independent candidate Sengbat R Marak, who pushed sitting Congress MLA Deborah Marak to third place in the 2018 assembly elections joined the NPP along with dozens of supporters on Tuesday afternoon.
His entry has given a boost to the NPP in the region as Sengbat lost to NPP’s Marcuise Marak in a close contest in which the Congress was left far behind in third place.
The entry of Sengbat was not the only boost to the NPP today as two other political candidates who also contested recent elections shook hands with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and joined the ruling party along with their groups of supporters.
Independent candidate Saljong R Marak who contested the same 2018 assembly polls along with Pinpin Sangma an advocate who contested last year’s GHADC elections from Rongrenggre (Williamnagar) also entered the NPP on the same day.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma welcomed the leaders at a special programme organised by the NPP district committee and said that the huge response from leaders and supporters to be a part of the NPP shows that the party is working hard for the interests of the people of the state.
