Shillong, Jan 20: One person was stabbed and two others injured in a gruesome attack opposite Lumdiengjri police station on Thursday afternoon in Shillong.
55-year-old Chandan Paul, who is a shopkeeper, was stabbed from behind, resulting in serious injuries. He was immediately rushed to Civil Hospital for medical attention.
Two other victims, Norjul Mullah and Abdul Sukkur, both residents of Garikhana, received minor injuries with Mullah receiving 5 stitches on his ear.
Ruma Paul, one of the victim’s sister, said the incident happened around 4pm wherein a group of 8-10 masked men suddenly appeared and started attacking the three victims. She said the group of masked immediately fled the scene after the assault.
Mullah and Sukkur added that they were standing near the shop when the unidentified men started assaulting them.
Meanwhile, officials at the Lumdiengjri police station said the incident took place so quickly that they couldn’t react on time to catch hold of any of the assailants. The official mentioned that the Officer In-charge has already started the investigation into the case.
SP City Vivek Syiem informed that it was a case of assault and investigation is underway to ascertain the identities of the unidentified miscreants.
