Shillong, June 10: With a view to alleviate the burden of unemployment to some extent in the State, Congress Lok Sabha MP from Shillong, Vincent H. Pala has asked the state government to fast-track the recruitment process to the newly approved seventh and eighth battalions of Meghalaya Police.
He claimed that approximately 2 million youth, who were studying or working in other parts of the country, have returned to the state due to the corona virus pandemic. This has added to the number of graduates passing out of the colleges and universities every year who are already struggling to get employment.
Additionally, the CMIE report has estimated the unemployment rate in Meghalaya at about 13 percent, the highest ever in the history of Meghalaya.
In his letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday, Pala said, “…I am urging your good self to expedite the recruitment process of the duly approved two battalions, which will to some extent mitigate the unemployment crisis faced by our state.”
