Shillong, Jan 5: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) on Wednesday announced its first list of eight candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections. President of PDF and Sohra MLA Gavin Miguel Mylliem and cabinet minister and Mawkynrew MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh are among the candidates approved by the election committee.

The others include Shemhok Garod from Raliang, Roswell Shadap from Mawhati, Donlang Sohkhlet from Umsning, Romeo Phira Rani from East Shillong, Eugenestar Kurkalang from Nongkrem and Auspicious Lyngdoh Mawphlang from Mawphlang.

Mylliem said that the party had also received several applications from aspiring candidates who were interested to contest from PDF and the same is still being examined by the party before taking a final decision on the matter.

When asked, the PDF chief said that the party is planning to contest from 10 or 15 constituencies.

He however said that the party is yet to take any decision to field candidates from Mylliem constituency despite the decision of its sitting MLA Hamletson Dohling to soon join the NPP.

“We cannot stop any sitting legislator from shifting allegiance although the same will affect the party,” he added.
