Shillong, Mar 10: In a major development in the HNLC peace talks process, Meghalaya government has appointed former Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District, Peter S. Dkhar, as interlocutor from the State for facilitating peace talks with the banned militant outfit HNLC.
This announcement was made by Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday.
Retired IPS AK Mishra will help co-ordinate between the Centre and state government for the peace talk process.
On February 9, the HNLC had sent its official communication to the state government reiterating its readiness for peace dialogue without any preconditions.
On February 17, 2022, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had met Union Home Secretary in New Delhi to discuss the steps and process to take forward the peace-talks offer by the Khasi militant outfit. Following the meeting, Sangma had assured that some development would be taking place in coming weeks.
