Police Commemoration Day observed in West Jaiñtia Hills

Jowai, Oct 21: The Police Commemoration Day was on Thursday observed by the West Jaiñtia Hills Police at Police Reserve Administrative Building, Jowai in the presence of the District Superintendent of Police Bikram D Marak, Addl. Superintendent of Police Bijay Chetrri, amongst others.

The SP informed that on this date in 1959, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol at the Indo-Tibetan Border in Ladakh was ambushed by Chinese forces in an incursion bid by the Chinese forces and 10 brave souls laid down their lives during the incident. Since then this day (October 21) is observed as Police Commemoration Day.

On the solemn ceremony, tributes were also paid to 377 police personnel of the country who laid down their lives on the line of duty during the last one year which included personnel from the Central Armed Police Force and a Constable (Driver) of the Meghalaya Police, Klidwet Suchiang.

Wreaths were also laid as a mark to commemorate the sacrifices made by the brave policemen.
