Shillong, April 12: Hundred of local residents of Umwang, Sabuda, Jatalong Village, located along the Assam-Meghalaya border, staged a sit-in demonstration protest on Tuesday against the Assam Police. They demanded the Assam police to remove the road barricades put in place, as it is causing hindrance to the locals while travelling in these border areas.

The Assam Police has setup barricades in the areas and that has affected the locals while travelling from one area to another. “We for many years have been travelling from one area to another without any issue. The Assam Police all of a sudden has put up barricades that has affected the commuters; at a certain point we were not able to take the patient to the hospital on time due to these barricades,” said a local while on protest.

The locals also demanded the immediate released of three boys who have been apprehended on allegation of vandalising the bridge which connects Umpaklong village with Assam. The headman of Umpaklong termed the allegations as baseless and demanded for immediate released of the three apprehended locals.
