Altogether 35 persons, who were arrested in the Rimpu Bagan raid on July 22, last year and later released on bail, have filed complaints before the MHRC.

It may be mentioned here that police also arrested Bernard N Marak for allegedly running a brothel at Rimpu Bagan.

Addressing media persons, the ten persons said that they are victims of politics and are very desperate for justice. They said they had filed the complaint before the MHRC in August, last year but not a single hearing was conducted so far.

“The first hearing was supposed to be held on January 18 and 19 but SP and other police came on January 17 and informed us that the hearing has been postponed after elections till March. We don’t understand what is the connection between elections and the human rights commission? If anything happens to us, who will take the responsibility? We are scared because we are being targeted after filing this complaint,” said one of the female victims.

When asked, she said that they will be writing to the MHRC on the matter and also to seek removal of the SP.

She said 3 of the 35 people have also filed a complaint to the NHRC which had asked them to give a statement to the SP. “If SP is the one who arrested us then how will he take their statement? It should be the other officers,” she said.
