RTI activist accuses Meghalaya Transport dept of withholding funds meant for hired vehicles

Must read

Shillong, Mar 29: RTI activist Disparsing Rani has alleged that the Government of Meghalaya under the transport department has not released an amount of Rs. 22.80 lakhs for vehicles hired during the visit of Union Home Minister to Shillong in January 2021, despite the funds being released by NEC, according to an RTI.

Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, Rani said around 300-400 vehicles were procured by North Eastern Council (NEC) through the transport department from various private vehicles owners for logistics during the Union Home Minister visit to the state.

“But till date no payment has been made by the transport department to the respective vehicles owners. When the vehicles owners asked for payment from transport department, the commissioner of transport said that the funds have not been released by NEC,” said Rani.

But according to the RTI finding, Rani said NEC has already transferred funds to the Commissioner of Transport.
