RTI activist to file a complaint regarding the electricity connection in the Harijans Community.

Shillong June 21: RTI activist, Disparsing Rani will lodge a direct complaint to the Chief education commissioner as his demand for Documents from the MeECL department and Shillong Municipal Board has been pending for a period of two months now.

Speaking to the reporters, Disparsing Rani informed that he had filed an RTI complaint on April 1st this year and till date no response from them have been received.

Rani also informed that he had appeal to the department on June 7th, this year, “If the response keep on pending then I think it is high time to lodged a complaint to the education commissioner, as per the procedures of the RTI”.

Based on claimed by the Harijan colony, they are the land owner since 1853 given to them by Syiem, RTI activist Disparsing Rani has been questioning the department on the procedures that need to be followed in regards to electricity connection to every household in Meghalaya.

Rani said, “As per the tradition of Meghalaya every landowner should have a Patta in Iewduh, the Patta was given by Syiem during 1853, part of the land documents is to be submitted by each landowner for the application of the electricity connection which is as per the procedures of the electricity board”.

As per the agreement signed in 1954 by the Syiem of Mylliem Joy Manik and the vice chairman of SMB, L. Pal, it is clearly mentioned that the authority to belong to the Syiem and Shillong Municipal Board, mentioned Rani.

He also added, those who violates the norm, Syiem has the power to take back the land.
It may be mentioned that Rani has filed a complaint to the concern department from April 1 this year.
