Shillong, June 25: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Saturday condemned the assault on two boys from Kerala, who are interns of Impulse NGO Network, at Jaiaw.

“I totally condemn this kind of incident that tries to spread hatred in the society,” Rymbui told reporters.

Stating that the police have already registered a case on the matter, the home minister said, “Investigation is on and I am very hopeful that in the next 24 hours, the police will be able to nab the culprits.”

On Friday, a group of 30 youths allegedly attacked the two interns – Rejaz Sydeek and Sarath Thambi – at Jaiaw.

Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Lajja Ram Bishnoi informed that the police are still analyzing the CCTV footage to identify the youth involved in the assault incident. He assured that action will be taken as per law.

Appealing to all the youth to refrain from such activities, the DGP said, “…whatever the reasons they are doing or if they are under the influence of liquor, they should stop it and we will assist if any problem is there from their side. They should come forward and discuss with us openly instead of assaulting youth in public places as it will send the wrong signals for the whole state.”
