SAANS Campaign launched in West Jaintia Hills with the objectives of protection, prevention and treatment against Pneumonia

Jowai, Nov 30: Social Awareness and Action to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) campaign was launched in the District by Dr. KC Ajar, District Medical & Health Officer, West Jaiñtia Hills District at Lumkyrwiang Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) organised by National Health Mission, West Jaiñtia Hills District.

Dr. KC Ajar spoke about the signs and symptoms of pneumonia and advised the parents if they identify any such signs like shortness of breath, coughing, fever or any in a child should seek immediate medical help. He said preventing pneumonia in children is an essential component to reduce child mortality.  Dr. M. Syngkon, District Maternal & Child Health Officer who is also the District Immunisation Officer said that the objective of the SAANS Campaign is to prevent Child Death from Pneumonia and Diarrhoea targeting the age group of 0 – 5 years.

She emphasized on the three objectives of the programme – protect, prevent and treatment and a need for timely medication if arise to prevent loss of life in children. The programme was chaired by Additional DMHO, Dr. A Challam, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. R Passah, incharge Loomkyrwiang UPHC.
