Sadhiarani of Congress to take on Benedic of NPP for CEM post

Must read

Tura, April 21: Refusing to give a walk over to the NPP led Garo Hills Democratic coalition in the GHADC despite losing in the Chairman election on Wednesday, the opposition Congress has decided to fight it out even for the election of Chief Executive Member.

Congress MDC from Dengnakpara, Sadhiarani M Sangma, has decided to take on the NPP led alliance candidate Benedic R Marak in the election to the CEM’s post which is slated to take place on Thursday morning at 11 AM.

While Benedic Marak filed his nomination for the CEM election as the NPP candidate, the candidature of Congress leader Zenith Sangma’s wife was seconded by Congress MDCs Ashahel D Shira and Cherak W Momin on Wednesday.

Although the numbers are clearly with the NP led alliance, as witnessed during the Chairman election when the Congress candidate was defeated by 4 votes, the Congress party is not keen to let the top executive position of the GHADC go without a fight.

Both, Sadhiarani Sangma and Benedic Marak are second term MDCs and the NPP candidate is also a sitting MLA of Raksamgre constituency.
