Shillong, Mar 29: Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) chief Sadon K Blah on Tuesday said he would soon meet the government appointed interlocutors to pursue the peace talks with the banned Khasi rebel outfit – Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).
Blah has been appointed by HNLC as its representative.
“I accept the proposal of the HNLC to appoint me as its representative for the peace talks,” he said.
Stating that it is indeed a huge responsibility on his shoulder, the HNYF chief said, “My role is basically to bring a tripartite (discussion) between the government of India, government of Meghalaya and the HNLC. My role is…to communicate to the government through the interlocutor.”
“…as both the central and state governments have shown interest in inviting the HNLC for talks, I am expecting that things will move forward in (a positive manner) and towards their logical conclusion,” he added.
Blah, however, refused to divulge details on the issues proposed by the HNLC to flag before the government by saying “It will not be appropriate to spell out the agendas that the HNLC has communicated to me.”
He said there are lots of issues but the outfit will stand by its commitment that the talks will be unconditional and within the parameters of the Indian Constitution.
Asked if the government representatives have reached out to him, Blah said officially they have not communicated but telephonic conversation has taken place between them.
“(Therefore), I will be meeting the government interlocutors in the coming days depending upon the conveniences of the interlocutor as to when he can make himself available for meeting,” he added.
