Shillong, June 13: Following the complaint made by the Waheh Shnong (Rangbah Shnong) along with Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai on Monday inspected the District Auditorium and Museum at Mynthong, Jowai.

“Few days ago the leaders of the Jaintia Students Union and the members of the Dorbar shnong Jowai, Mynthong have submitted a memorandum to me regarding the condition of the auditorium; they have just shown me in the videos,” said Sanbor Shullai.

On visiting the auditorium Shullai said that there are so many irregularities, very heavy leakage and cracks in all the beams and pillars of the building. The outside of the library is just a showcase to cover up a huge corruption during the course of construction of this building, he added.

He also said that the government will need to request a technical team of BJP from Delhi to come to Shillong along with the Dorbar Shnong, Jaintia Students Union and the Arts and culture department to inspect the site for the District Auditorium and prepare a DPR.

Stating that the building has to be dismantled and rebuilt, Sanbor said the new can be a G+5 structure as the amendment to the existing building by-laws has been made and, therefore, effectively 6- storied can be constructed after the inspection by the Delhi team. He also added that he, along with the technical team from Delhi, will prepare the DPR for the G+5 building, and a new project will be initiated for the construction of the new building.

He also suggested setting up a Monitoring Committee to monitor the DPR, while an independent committee will keep a continuous check as per the provisions of the DPR.

He also put forward a suggestion to the various departments of the government to have a proper consultation with the respective youth organizations, dorbar shnongs of the area before setting up any building to avoid anything like this again.

He further stated that his team will get on the job of preparing the DPR by next month and the expected cost would be around Rs. 100. However, the timeline for the construction will purely depend on the DPR.

Shullai also informed that the current work will be stopped immediately and no work will be allowed until the inspection of the site by the technical team from Delhi.
