Shillong, Feb 9: BJP leader and cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai on Wednesday welcomed the decision of the five Congress legislators to extend support and joining the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.
“As far as I am concerned there is no problem. (Whether) Congress or PDF or HSPDP they are parties only but finally we are human beings we work for the same issue only,” Shullai told reporters.
His statement came a day after the BJP state president Ernest Mawrie had expressed disappointment over the NPP’s decision to welcome the support extended by the opposition Congress.
Mawrie had alleged that the BJP was never consulted as a coalition partner as he maintained that his party can never work with the Congress by citing “a lion and a deer cannot drink water together from the same river”.
When asked, Shullai however said, “You see Congress is what… it is mere party. Congress, BJP this and that finally once you are elected from various parties, the mission, the vision is to work for the development of the state and to maintain peace and harmony in the state. That is the vision of each and every elected member even if he belongs to any party also, we should work together for development of the state. There is no difference.”
The BJP leader further stated that he cannot comment further as all this is the prerogative of the chief minister.
He said that he is not aware if the BJP was consulted but he just heard that Congress MLAs are joining the MDA.
