Guwahati, September 21: In response to the ongoing heatwave, school hours for private, state government and central schools in Kamrup Metro district have been revised.
Starting from Saturday, schools will operate from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM, with additional guidelines in place to ensure student safety.
The decision, made in consultation with the District Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, aims to protect students from the extreme heat. According to the official order, classes will begin at 7:30 AM and end by 12:30 PM as a precautionary measure.
This change follows a report from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) that temperatures in the region have soared 5 to 6°C above normal over the past four days. The region has also experienced little to no rainfall recently, with officials at the regional meteorological office in Guwahati predicting similar conditions for the next 3-4 days.
The extreme heat has disrupted daily life, with many people staying indoors to avoid the scorching temperatures. A local student commented, “Due to global warming, the heatwave keeps getting worse. We have to get up early now because the heat is unbearable and pollution is increasing. It’s hard to concentrate on studying in these conditions, and the heat makes us sweat a lot.”
The revised school hours and additional guidelines are intended to reduce the impact of the heatwave on students and ensure their well-being during this challenging time.
