Section 144 promulgated to preserve catchment areas of Myntdu River

Jowai, May 24: The quality of water in the Myntdu River and its tributaries are severely affected and muddy due to erosion and depositing of debris in the important catchment areas of Myntdu River due to illegal mining and the earth moving from the ongoing road construction by the PWD Roads, Central Division, the District Magistrate of, B.S Sohliya, has promulgated Section 144 Cr.PC in the District.

The order states thay the PWD along with the concerned contractor are to ensure that the ongoing road construction is stopped till suitable measures are adopted to stop the flow of debris into the Myntdu River. The PWD Roads, Central Division is to take immediate action to restore the quality of water.

That sand mining and stone quarries all along the river Myntdu and on the river bed are prohibited.

The order also prohibits the washing of clothes and vehicles, dumping of spoils and waste material (Solid/Liquid) along the course of Myntdu River and waste/muck from road construction into Myntdu
River.
