Shillong, Feb 6: Followers of indigenous faith ‘niam tynrai’ or Seng Khasi on Sunday trekked to the ‘navel of heaven’ atop the 1,344 meter sacred mountain peak ‘U Lum Sohpetbneng’ in Ri-Bhoi district.
The pilgrimage to the peak on Sunday was attended by thousands of people to offer obeisance to God.
This annual pilgrimage is carried out on the first Sunday of February. Located on top of a hill, legend has it, that on this spot a golden ladder (Jingkieng Ksiar) connected heaven and earth, god and man. But the connection was severed in accordance with divine decree.
