Senior Cong leader criticises Amit Shah for visiting Guwahti instead of Manipur

Guwahati, May 25: Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday came down heavily on Union Home Minister Amit Shah for visiting Guwahati instead of Manipur, which has been buring for last 22 days.

“The Union Home Minister goes all the way to Guwahati today, but does not deem it fit to visit Imphal when Manipur has been burning for 22 days,” Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted.

 

He further said, “This is the same Union Home Minister who held 16 rallies and 15 road shows in Karnataka, but cannot find time for the people of Manipur who are suffering a lot due to the ideology and politics of the so-called Double Engine Sarkar.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday visited Guwahati and distributed 44,703 appointment letters to newly recruited youth in a programme held at Guwahati.

Manipur has witnessed ethnic-violence since May 4. The situation in Manipur remains volatile as violent acts unfold in different parts of the state.

On Wednesday evening, fresh instances of violence has been reported from the state after mob reportedly vandalised the residence of PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam, located in Ningthoukhong Bazar under the jurisdiction of the Bishnupur police station.

Army and Assam Rifles have been deployed in the state to bring back normalcy in the state. Slowly normalcy has been returning in Manipur but some areas remain tense after arsoning of shops were reported from West Imphal district.
