Shillong’s Supercare Hospital founder & noted Gastroenterologist Dr RS Thangkhiew conferred with ‘Distinguished Career Award’

Shillong, April 29: The Founder, Managing Director & Chief Gastroenterologist of Supercare Hospital, Shillong, Dr Rangksan Singh Thangkhiew received the ‘Distinguished Career Award’ at the prestigious ‘Northeast Healthcare Summit 2023’ held in Radisson Blue Hotel, Guwahati, Assam on the Friday.

This prestigious Summit offers an exclusive platform to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of key stakeholders in the healthcare industry of the northeast region.

The Chief Guests at the summit were Keshav Mahanta, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of Assam and Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, Minister of Health & Family Welfare & IPR, Govt of Manipur.

The first edition of the Summit was held in 2019 and for four years, the event has been successfully organized to felicitate the medical fraternity in Assam. For the first time this year, the summit has expanded its scope and reach to include all the seven sister states of the Northeast including Sikkim. The summit aims to recognize the hard work, determination and excellent service of organizations and individuals that they provide to the development of healthcare sector in the northeast region.

Dr RS Thangkhiew received this prestigious award for his dedication in service and guiding the medical fraternity in Meghalaya.

Dr RS Thangkhiew completed his MBBS from Assam Medical College in 1980 and his MD (Medicine) from PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1985. He was the first Super-specialist in Gastroenterology in the Northeast when he finished his DM (Gastro) in 1987 from PGIMER, Chandigarh.

He was also the first in the northeast region to perform and introduce ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) which is a procedure that combines the use of endoscopy and x-rays to diagnose and treat certain problems of the biliary or pancreatic ductal systems.
