Gangtok, Jan 24: Following SKM – SDF clash and stone pelting, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party president and former chief minister Pawan Chamling said there is a complete failure of law and order in Sikkim and there is ‘Jungle Raaj’ with no security for life and property.
“Gundas (Goons) are ruling the state and the police are also helpless. SP to ADC and other administrations were there during the incident but they were helpless. This present government doesn’t deserve to be there in the government… so looking at this, President’s Rule should be imposed if the government of India considers Sikkimese as their citizens and wants democracy to be restored,” Chamling said.
As per him, 15 party workers were hurt and many were critical, and dozens of vehicles were also vandalized. He said they will also write to the Union Home Ministry and Governor of the state on the incident.
It must be mentioned that on Tuesday morning, after getting necessary permission from the concerned authority, SDF started their ‘Sikkim Bachau Abhiyan’ as part of the election campaign or rather public outreach program in Assangthang, near Namchi, and on the way, stones were pelted and clashes took place and SKM karaykartas even raised the slogan of “Go Back Chamling”.
This is the fourth such incident of stone pelting in the state of Sikkim since 2019. In the year 2019 also Pawan Chamling’s carcade was stone pelted; last year also saw the stone pelting incident in Melli; then again in Soreng, stone pelting incident took place wherein then SDF’s spokesperson Avinash Yakha fired a gunshot in the air to protect himself, and Tuesday’s incident is fourth.
