Shillong, Dec 1: The Meghalaya Athletics Association and Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya is organising an International marathon competition titled ‘Sohra International Half Marathon 2022’.

The Sohra International Half Marathon is the first International Marathon in the State, which will be held on December 21, 2022.

“We are happy to announce that the Meghalaya Athletics Association and Meghalaya State Olympic Association in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya will be conducting an International which is probably the first International Sohra Marathon. This is a marathon which is approved by the Athletic Federation of India (AFI) and conducted with the international norms and rules of the world athletics,” informed John F Kharshiing, Working President of the MSOA.

Online registrations are open in the website of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association at meghalayaolympicassociation.com and for offline registration will be available at MSOA Office.

The marathon will be divided into 4 groups for both men and women: 1. Elite Group (international athletes), 2. Meghalayan only PRC, 3. Above 50 years open 10K, and 4. Run for Fun 5K, with registration fees of Rs. 500 and Rs. 200 respectively.
The winner of the elite group will take home Rs. 1.5 lakh, the 1st runner up with be awarded Rs. 1 lakh and the third spot will get Rs 50,000. In the Meghalayan only PRC category, the winner will get Rs. 30,000, Rs. 15,000 for second spot and Rs. 10,000 for the third spot; the 10 runners after the 3rd spot will get Rs 5,000 each.
