Shillong, Jan 8: In a historic move, 183 athletes, representing 11 Associations have come together to represent West Khasi Hills District in the highly anticipated 5th edition of the Meghalaya Games, scheduled from January 15-20, 2024 in Tura.
Covering diverse disciplines such as Table Tennis, Badminton, Football, Basketball, and Volleyball, these athletes are training hard to operate cohesively under the guidance of the newly established Co-Ordination Committee of West Khasi Hills District Association for the 5th Meghalaya Games 2024.
Chief-De-Mission of the Committee, G. Gilbert Sangriang, stressed that the primary aim of this initiative is to unite the Associations for the greater good, focusing on building a positive reputation and discipline in the district, beyond just winning medals.
Gilbert said this effort is a departure from previous years when individual Associations participated independently in the Meghalaya Games. This year’s collaborative approach highlights the strength of unity as athletes aim to showcase their skills in various sporting events, marking a new era for West Khasi Hills in the realm of sports, he added.
