Sports Talent Identification program resumes after two-week break in Garo Hills

Tura, May 9: After a two-week break due to a heat wave, the Phase-2 sports talent identification program resumed on Monday at St Francis School, Mronggre Village, in Demdema C&RD Block, West Garo Hills District.


The STAR Talent Identification program is being conducted by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, under the supervision of Edge10 – Sportality. The program has been ongoing in various schools under the C&RD Blocks.


On May 8, eight schools, including St. Francis School, Shyam Nagar Govt LP school, Kalapani Secondary School, Shyam Nagar Govt UP school, JN Higher Secondary School, Gime New Model Govt School, Gimegari Deficit Secondary School, and Chambakpara Govt. LP School from Demdema C&RD Block, WGHD, participated in the program. A total of 225 athletes were tested using Australian technology.

During Phase-1, a total of 4541 athletes were tested, out of which 200 have been identified and are in an one-year Elite Pathway Program. Due to the positive indicators, the STAR program has been extended to cover another ten thousand athletes at the block level. So far, 7500 athletes have been tested throughout the state.

Upon completion of the Phase-2 STAR talent identification program, Edge10 will submit a detailed ranking report to the Department of Sports. It is expected that a few more talented athletes with international benchmarks will be identified from this program. The MSOA Team has identified a number of athletes with outstanding performances with the help of international technology and knowledge transfer.
