Following stiff pressure from multiple quarters and its own internal disciplinary committee failing to make any headway into the recent ragging incident in its Tura Campus, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has filed a FIR on the incident.
An official statement said that the fact finding committee will be headed by the Dean of the School of Human & Environmental Sciences, Prof. Lucy Zehol.
The Monday night incident, which involved a verbal altercation and physical confrontation among students residing in the hostel, was related to disagreements regarding the rules and regulations governing hostel life.
Stating that the State is going ahead with the NEP implementation, Sangma said, “There is no going back on that.” He also urged individuals and colleges to come forward and discuss the issues they have with the State government.
The association has petitioned vice chancellor Prof. PS Shukla to withdraw the July 12 notification mandating the implementation of NEP 2020 across all affiliated colleges.
The Union has urged the NEHU administration, police authorities, and the State government to swiftly address the situation by taking stringent measures against the assailants.
