Rajya Sabha MP and Trinamool Congress leader Sushmita Dev on Monday staged 10-hours hunger strike in protest against the Election Commission of India's (ECI) proposed delimitation draft.
While talking to media persons Rizorio Okram one of the protesters said Prime minister Narendra Modi is preaching the message of peace and harmony in the world while conveniently ignoring the fact that a part of his own country is burning for the last 49 days
In the sit-in protest, the protestors were seen holding placards and the tricolor during their protest at Saikul playground in the sub divisional headquarters from Tuesday noon till late afternoon.
Other who spoke on the occasion and took part in the program included general secretary from GSU(CEC) Interim Body, Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GSMC),Vice President of FKJGP – Garo Hills , President of TGCSU, A·chik Mahindra Pik Up Union, etc
The demonstration, which took place on Wednesday, was organized by indigenous student organizations advocating for the adoption of the Roman script for the Kokborak language.
Protestors also said that despite Union Hime Minister Amit Shah's visit to the state, the community was not feeling safe in Manipur as the state administration and the security forces were not able to help or protect them
