Several political and social organizations in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district have accused Meghalaya of encroaching upon 33 villages within Assam’s territory. They allege that these villages have been illegally included in the Barato-Mukro constituency under the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) ahead of the council elections on February 21.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said the government has increased manpower along the inter-state border following the alleged formation of a new militant group called United People's Front of Karbi Longri (UPFKL).
