The Golden math maestro from Assam: Ananda Bhaduri

Guwahati, July 21: A young prodigy from Assam Ananda Bhaduri has etched his name as a maths wizard in the annals of history.

Ananda, a brilliant student with a passion for numbers, was part of the Indian team that clinched the gold at the International Maths Olympiad (IMO) 2024, held in Bath, United Kingdom, from July 11-22.

This is the best performance in IMO by an Indian team since 1989, the year of debut, both in terms of number of gold medals won and rank achieved. The other members of the team are Adithya Mangudy Venkata Ganesh from Maharashtra, Kanav Talwar from UP, Rushil Mathur from Maharashtra, Arjun Gupta from Drelhi and Siddarth Choppara from Maharashtra.

The Indian team achieved its best ever ranking at the Olympiad by winning 4 Gold Medals, a silver and a honourable mention. Ananda Bhaduri is from Guwahati and got a gold medal.

The 6-member Indian team to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2024) held at Bath, United Kingdom (July 11-22 secured 4 gold Medals, 1 silver Medal and 1 Honourable Mention. The team rank is 4th out of 108 participating countries. In all 609 students took part (528 Males, 81 Females) in IMO 2024.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on X- “Heartiest congratulations to Assam’s son, Master Ananda Bhaduri on clinching a Gold at the International Maths Olympiad and being part of the Indian team as they achieved its best ever ranking at the Olympiad.

“Congratulations to all the other winners from the Indian squad for their tremendous performance” he said.

“It’s a matter of immense joy and pride that India has come 4th in its best-ever performance in the International Maths Olympiad. Our contingent has brought home 4 Golds and one Silver Medal. This feat will inspire several other youngsters and help make mathematics even more popular” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on X.

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania, with 7 countries participating. It has gradually expanded to over 100 countries from 5 continents. The IMO Board ensures that the competition takes place each year and that each host country observes the regulations and traditions of the IMO.
