Shillong, April 3: The city of Shillong witnessed a grand procession as the 4-day-long Ram Navami festival came to an end on Sunday. The procession was organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and saw a large number of people participating.
It started from Gadikhana Hanuman Mandir and concluded at Hanuman Mandir Rajasthan Vishram Bhawan via various roads of the city, including the main market. The procession included live tableaux of Lord Ram, Lakshmana, Janaki, and Bajrangbali Hanuman, and was accompanied by youth wearing saffron turbans and clothes dancing to the tunes of Ram’s name.
A special feature of this year’s rally was the participation of a large number of women and girls, including those from organizations like Durga Vahini. The whole city turned saffron due to the massive rally.
On reaching Hanuman Mandir Rajasthan Vishram Bhavan, live tableaux of Lord Ram were worshiped, and huge saffron flags were hoisted by the youth while chanting slogans of Jai Shri Ram. Prasad was also distributed to the participants. Overall, around five to six thousand people took part in this procession.
