Three toddlers charred to death at Khlieh Umtrew village in Ri Bhoi

Nongpoh, Jan 12: Three toddlers succumbed to death after they were engulfed by a raging inferno on the afternoon of January 11 (Wednesday) at the Khlieh Umtrew village in Mawhati in Ri Bhoi District.

According to the information, the three toddlers, among them two twin brothers aged 2-year-old and one 3-year-old, were playing alone at their resident campus with another boy, aged 4-year-old, who escaped from the fire.

Reportedly, the toddlers were playing at their house compound wherein they dug a hole and filled it with dried thatch and set it alight, which led to the incident. The toddlers got trapped in it and lost their lives.

Upon receiving the information, Ri Bhoi District police rushed to the spot and conducted the enquiry on the incident. However, post mortem was exempted after request from the families.

After all procedures and enquiries were done, the final rites of the three toddlers were held on Thursday at Khileh Umtrew village.
