Tongkhar reviews progress of Greater Rymbai Water Supply Scheme and Synrang Umlawe Combined Water Supply Scheme

Shillong, Aug 4: In order to make clean drinking water available to the residents of East Jaintia Hills district at the earliest,  PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar has personally inspected the progress of two major projects in the district, namely, Greater Rymbai Water Supply Scheme (WSS) and Synrang Umlawe Combined Water Supply Scheme.

The Greater Rymbai Water Supply Scheme has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 66 crore and the Synrang Umlawe Combined Water Supply Scheme at Rs 114 crores, respectively.

The main sources of these two schemes are dependent on the natural spring located at Rymbai preserved by the Dorbar Shnong and later donated to the office of the PHE for implementation of these schemes to provide drinking water to more than 65% of the villages in the district.

This source is their only hope of clean drinking water to many villages.

Also present during the inspection were Social Welfare Minister and Khliehriat legislator, Kyrmen Shylla and PHE chief engineer.

After the inspection, Tongkhar also chaired a meeting at the office of the SDO (Electrical) at Rymbai in the presence of officers from the dept, the local MLA, headman and local leaders.

The meeting decided to complete the Greater Rymbai Water Supply Scheme and the Synrang Umlawe Combined Supply Scheme which are long pending and delayed schemes.

Issue related to the upgradation of the SDO PHE Electrical from Sub-Division to the Division level was also discussed.
