Tongkhar urges Shillongites to keep city clean, aim for India’s cleanest city spot

Shillong, Oct 6: PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar has urged upon the officers and the community as a whole to work towards making Shillong a clean city and aspire to make it to the top list of India’s cleanest cities.

Speaking at the state level workshop on Swachh Survekchan Grameen on Wednesday, the Minister referred to the 2020 survey of the Swachh Survekchan results wherein Indore in Madhya Pradesh bagged the top rank as the cleanest city in India for the fourth consecutive year.Turning to the use of plastic and the environmental damage arising out of the use of plastic, the Minister spoke about turning such wastes into wealth.Stating that the state is moving on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, he stressed on efforts to bring about a clean and healthy environment.

Later, speaking to reporters, the PHE Minister said the mission is all about bringing cleanliness and to ensure sustainability of infrastructure and the facilities created.
