Shillong, Mar 24: In what is becoming an excruciatingly long wait to finalize the border agreement to resolve 6 of 12 areas of dispute between Assam – Meghalaya under first phase, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has once again postponed the date for the tripartite meet between Assam, Meghalaya and the MHA.
The MHA has now pushed the date to March 29, from the earlier date of March 27, to finalize the border agreement signed between Assam and Meghalaya for resolving the 6 of the 12 areas of difference.
Informing this on Thursday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “This communication has come from MHA… So all preparations are being made for March 29.”
Earlier, Sangma had informed in the just concluded Assembly’s Budget Session that the signing of the agreement for resolving the six areas of difference between Assam and Meghalaya will take place in New Delhi on March 27.
He had also informed that all the cabinet colleagues and officials who are involved in the exercise will be going to Delhi to mark the important occasion.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya on January 29 and was submitted to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 31, for examination and consideration of the MHA.
