Agartala, Jan 18: After Election Commission of India (ECI) announced poll dates in the three Northeastern states, AICC in-charge of Tripura Dr Ajay Kumar was injured in a clash with BJP supporters at Ranirbazar Mohanpur in West Tripura district on Wednesday.

Ahead of Assembly polls in Tripura, political violence has once again started in the state, which has witnessed massive violence in the state during past elections.

Soon after in the incident, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman arrived at the AGMC and GB hospital to inquire about the health condition of their party workers.

Talking to media persons, Sudip Roy Barman alleged that large numbers of BJP supporters were present during the clash and police remained a mute spectator.

“A BJP minister was leading the attack on the opposition. We demand that the election commission separately conducts poll in five constituencies including the Majlishpur constituency where the incident took place today,” the Congress MLA alleged.

He said, “In a peaceful manner, our Congress members (were) holding a rally at Majilishpur constituency. Suddenly, a BJP minister came and a heated argument started and, suddenly, BJP supporters attacked our party members. We condemn such act and appeal to the ECI to take action against the minister against the act,” Sudip Roy Barman said.

On January 13, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Tripura In-charge Ajoy Kumar, Left Front Convener Narayan Kar, and CPI-M state committee secretary Jitendra Choudhury held the meeting at the CPI-M state party office regarding pre- poll alliance.
