Agartala, Jan 18: A man allegedly killed his three and half year-old child and buried the body in the marshy area near a dried pond at Baldakhal area in the outskrits of Agartala on Tuesday.

“After getting information, police rushed to the spot and (launched) search operation, which lasted for three hours. Lastly, the body of the minor (was) traced and dug out from a marshy area,” said a source.

The entire search operation took place in the presence of an executive magistrate. Later, forensic team arrived there for investigation.

Talking to media persons, Paramita Pandey, SDPO (NCC), said, “We got information that one Shyamal Das had allegedly murdered his minor child and buried the body in a pit in Baldakhal’s Paulpara area. After reaching the spot, our police team started investigation and after three hours of search, the body was found from a marshy area where it was buried.”

“We have sent the body for post-mortem and detained the father of the minor child Shyamal Das for murdering his own child,” Pandey said.

He further said, “The mother of the minor child Sarswati Sarkar said that last night her minor child was badly beaten by his father and when she tried to rescue the child, she was also beaten by Shymal.”

“Preliminary investigation suggested that Shymal is a regular drunkard and everyday he beat his wife Saraswati, whom he married three months ago,” he added.
