In a bizzare incident, a body of an elderly woman was buried at home by her own son, to fulfill his mother last wish.
The incident occured at AD Nagar area in the outskirts of Agartala on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sadhana Saha(90).
Woman’s son, Asish confessed that his mother had asked him, before her death, to keep her body next to the altar in their room so that she and God could protect their house. As a result, he buried her body to prevent the foul smell from spreading.
He also said that his mother died the previous day around 7 PM.
Sima Paul, a local resident said, “His mother was bedridden and faced difficulties in moving. When we inquired about his mother, he informed us that she had gone to his aunt’s house. Out of curiosity, we tried to sneak into his room and discovered that he had been digging inside. Then he confessed to one Kanai that he had buried his mother inside the room after her death. Subsequently, we informed the police, and the body was exhumed,”.
The accused is reported to be suffering from a mental condition.
Talking to media persons, SDPO (sub-divisional police officer) Amtali, Asish Dasgupta, “We received information that Sadhana Saha was allegedly buried inside her room by her son at Tantipara, under the jurisdiction of the AD Nagar police station, after her death. The AD Nagar police, accompanied by a forensic team and a magistrate, arrived at the scene and exhumed the mortal remains in the presence of locals.”
“The investigation is still ongoing and is in its preliminary stage. We have spoken to the neighbors. The body will be sent for a post-mortem examination, and the accused is currently in our custody. We found a spade in the area, but it is unclear if it was used,” Dasgupta said.
