Agartala, Nov 3: In a significant anti-drug operation, Tripura police apprehended a suspected drug trafficker and seized Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 2 crore in Dhalai district.
Following a tip-off about drug movements, the arrest took place on Friday night during a routine vehicle check in Bet Bagar, Ambassa.
Ambassa police station’s Officer-in-Charge, Gurupada Debnath, stated that they had received specific intelligence about a luxury car suspected of transporting drugs from Churaibari, the entry point from Assam.
When a car with the registration number TR 01 CA 0439 approached the checkpoint, officers stopped it for inspection. A thorough search revealed eight concealed packets of Yaba tablets hidden within the vehicle’s structure.
“A total of 80,000 Yaba tablets were seized, with an estimated black market value of around Rs 2 crore,” Debnath reported.
The vehicle’s driver, identified as Rafique Miah from south Ramnagar in Agartala, was immediately detained.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Ambassa police station.
“We are interrogating Miah to uncover others involved in the smuggling network,” Debnath added.
