Agartala, Feb 14: Tipra Motha supremo Pradyut Debbarma on Tuesday announced to leave politics after the upcoming Tripura Assembly elections.
While addressing a poll rally at Charilam constituency in Tripura, Pradyut Debbarma said, “This was my last political speech because I have decided to leave politics. You will not see ‘Bubagra’ anymore in politics. I have started my political journey from Charilam and today my political journey will end from this Charilam constituency.”
Pradyut Debbarma is also known as ‘Bubagra’ among his people.
“I am leaving politics but I will remain in your heart. I have fought for your rights but many leaders have left me after they were denied ticket from our party. Earlier, they committed many things to me but after they were denied ticket from our party, they joined BJP. Our leaders and everybody wants to become MLA and leader but nobody thinks for our poor people,” the Tipra Motha chief asserted.
He further said, “I think I am alone but you people helped me a lot to fight for the indigenous people of Tripura. Our own leaders betrayed me and left our party but you people trusted in me. Our fight is for the rights of the indigenous people and I can tell you that we have not compromised with the rights of the people of Tripura.”
Taking a dig at Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma, who is contesting from Charilam constituency, Pradyut said BJP has not done anything in the last five years for the people of Tripura.
“Jishnu Debbarma belongs to my family, but for me – country and its people, are more important from Parivar (Family). The double engine government spread falsehood in the last elections; in reality they have done nothing for the people of the state,” he said.
While speaking to the people of Charilam, Pradyut also got emotional and cried and thanked the people for supporting him.
“Many leaders betrayed me for not getting ticket and joined BJP. But the people of Puraibodol never left me. On March 2, we will form government and I will go to New Delhi for the genuine rights of the people,” he said.
He further added, “I am tired, no strength left in me but the love for you gives me some strength to fight for your rights. I have not contested the election because I don’t want to become a leader. Many people called me communal but I didn’t do communal politics.”
Pradyut Debbarma campaigned for Subodh Debbarma, who is contesting from Charilam constituency against deputy chief minister Jishnu Debbarma.
Tipra Motha is contesting in 42 out of 60 assembly seats, polling for which is on February 16.
