Guwahati, Dec 14: An Assam police constable, Ujjwal Bora, a resident of Jorhat, was killed after being hit by a truck during an operation at the Churaibari checkpost on the Assam-Tripura border. The incident occurred amidst dense fog, which may have contributed to the tragedy.
According to reports, the police were attempting to intercept a suspicious truck following inputs of a possible smuggling attempt. In the process, the truck ran over Bora, fatally injuring him.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck may have been transporting contraband. Efforts are underway to verify the nature of the cargo and identify those involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, police have launched a search to trace the truck and its occupants. An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
