Tura lad makes it to Aerospace engineering in prestigious IIT Bombay

Tura, July 19: A remarkable feat has been achieved by young Jonathan Sinkam M Sangma of Tura, who, besides cracking this year’s tough JEE examination with top honors, has been selected to join the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology- Bombay in the field of Aerospace Engineering.

Eighteen-year-old Jonathan is the son of Dr Riksilchi M Sangma and Dr Aelifter R Marak of Forest Tilla locality of Tura. He secured two top ranks in the JEE Mains this year- All India 1st rank for B-Planning and All India Rank 6 in B. Architecture.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma took to social media on Friday to congratulate the young topper saying that his achievement will be an inspiration for other students of Meghalaya and wished him the very best.

A student of Captain William’s School in Tura, from where he completed his Class X CBSE, Jonathan joined the Velammal International School for his Class 12 before appearing for the JEE examinations.

“We are delighted with the results since he had wanted to get into IIT-Bombay,” says Jonathan’s mother Dr Riksilchi M Sangma.

Initially, Jonathan was offered Chemical Engineering at IIT-Delhi after the counseling sessions, something he was not too keen for. His favourite subject all along has been Computer Engineering.

“It was after the 5th round of counseling that we got to know that he has been selected for IIT-Bombay and he is excited to go there,” says his mother.

“This will be a specialization on aircraft engineering and I am eager to learn,” says Jonathan while speaking to HUB News in Tura. He intends to take up M.Tech after completing his four year B.Tech at IIT-Bombay.

Jonathan’s advice to the young girls and boys from the state preparing for their careers, “My experience is that we need to keep studying. It is not the number of hours we put in but the focus and concentration. Quality of study is the goal.”
