Tura, Oct 25: The BJP Mahila Morcha lodged a complaint with Superintendent of the MCH Hospital, Tura demanding a comprehensive inquiry into an allegation that doctors are referring patients to private clinics before carrying out a Sonography at the expense of the patients even though there is a functioning machine for the same diagnosis in the hospital.

According to reports, the government Maternity and Child Hospital in Tura, the main hospital dealing with mothers and babies, is under fire from the women wing of the BJP.

In a complaint letter, BJP Mahila Morcha district president Rakhi K Sangma, complained that some of the doctors from the hospital are conducting such illegal practices of sending patients to private clinics for ultrasound diagnosis.

Questioning the norms, Sangma said “Provision of basic health facilities should be part of the Fundamental Rights. The poor are mostly deprived of advanced medical facilities as the expenses of medicines and other treatments are beyond their reach.’’

The complaint letter further questioned as to how the poor will have the resources to seek appropriate and affordable treatments and that more charitable and government hospitals should be opened to provide medical facilities to the poor and the destitute.

On the other hand, the BJP also accused doctors and nurses fresh scrutiny after they experienced problems such as rude staff, a lack of compassion and long waits for treatment.

“We have received several public complaints about your reputed hospital lacking public relation. It may be run by a government but they have to treat the general public in a good manner and not shout at them as some are coming from villages and do not understand the medical terms,” advised the Mahila morcha.

If that was not all, it accused doctors of being busy in “chit’chat” during the OPD.

“Patients coming from villages have to wait until their chit chat is over. If something happens to the patient then who will take responsibility? Your hospital or your busy chit chat doctors?” asked the Mahila Morcha in their complaint letter.
