TURA, April 28: Shock and worry are staring Garo Hills after Tura recorded its first death from covid on Thursday, after a gap of two long years.

The covid patient passed away on April 27th while under hospitalization at Tura Holy Cross Hospital.

The patient has been identified as a 41 year old man who hailed from New Bhaitbari area in the Rajabala region of West Garo Hills.

He was brought to Tura 5 days ago with complications of breathlessness and high fever and subsequently admitted to hospital.

His condition deteriorated gradually and the patient passed away on Thursday, making it the first casualty of this highly infectious viral disease in the last two years.

Doctors are unsure of the vaccination status of the victim as no documents were initially available although some of his family members claim he was vaccinated while others cast doubt on the same.

This sudden death has once again raised concern as people in Garo Hills go about their work uncaring about taking any precautions.

The use of face masks have almost disappeared from the region and people are no longer seen undertaking hand sanitization also.
