Imphal, Mar 3: Two drug smugglers from Assam were arrested along with Brown Sugar worth around Rs 20 lakhs in Manipur’s Senapati district bordering Nagaland on Sunday.

The two smugglers, were identified as Bishwajit Hazarika (46) and Irfan Hague (34).

After getting specific information, the anti-smuggling unit of Manipur police commandos, in association with the Senapati district police on Sunday conducted a raid near KSTC dumping sote under Senapati police station.

“During the operation, police team have seized 828 grams of brown sugar, a four-wheeler and two mobile hand sets, from their possession,” said a police official.

A case under NDPS Act 1985 was registered agaist the drug smugglers.

Sources said inter-state smuggling of drugs and other contraband items has been going on in a coordinated way.

Assam police have launched a massive crackdown against drug smuggling and in recent times a huge amount of drugs were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.
