Two wheeler rally organised to commemorate International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Shillong, June 21: To commemorate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, East Khasi Hills Police in collaboration with NGO Tulba on Tuesday organized a two wheeler rally from ISBT Mawlai to Fire Brigade.

In order to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of a world free of drug abuse, the United Nations- UN General Assembly in December 1987, on 26 June, adopted the International Committee on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The rally was flagged off by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nangtanger from ISBT Mavalai.

Speaking on the occasion, Sylvester Nangtangar thanked NGO Tulba for organizing a two wheeler rally to create awareness against drug abuse and illegal trafficking. He urged the youth to not fall into the drug trap as it not only spoil the consumer but his family, neighbors, friends are all affected by it. Life is priceless, don’t push it into the swamp of drugs addressed Nangtangar.

The Superintendent of Police urged the NGOs, parents of youth, and people to cooperate with the police in preventing drug abuse and illegal trafficking, because without the cooperation of the public, the police alone will not be able to stop drug trafficking.
