The emergency services in the state have been hit ever since the workers of the GVK EMRI 108 called for a one-week strike from Monday midnight as a mark of protest against the non-fulfillment of their long pending demands.

Under the banner of the Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union (MEMRIWU), the workers have been demanding the state government for immediate cancellation of the contract with the GVK EMRI and provide job security to them.

When asked if the cease work strike would not affect the state’s preparedness in view of the concerns over the spread of Omicron variant, Tynsong however said the issue is totally different since the EMRI workers are purely private (employees).

He informed that the delegation of the GVK EMRI workers had also met and sought his intervention for ending the agreement with the company.

“The agreement (signed with the GVK EMRI) will expire by the month of March. I told them also we will see and discuss all these details in the cabinet. The health department will bring us all the details on how to go about it,” Tynsong said.

“(Therefore), I would request them to please withdraw your strike. We will look into this matter. The agreement will expire in March so we will see how to go about it,” he further assured.
