Shillong, May 20: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday asserted the need for chief ministers of different states to take up the issue of hike in the prices of essential commodities with the Centre.
Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said, “All chief ministers need to have the same voice about the concern related to the hike in the prices of essential commodities, be it diesel, be it petrol or be it (cooking) gas. Therefore, this issue has to be taken up with the Government of India if at all they can give some sort of relief on certain items for the interest of the public in the entire nation.”
The price of cooking gas LPG on Thursday rose for the second time this month by Rs. 3.50, taking LPG cylinder prices across the country over the Rs 1,000-mark.
Asked if Meghalaya will not be affected in view of the flood in neighbouring Assam, Tynsong said there is no shortage of essential commodities in the state.
“As far as essential commodities are concerned we are ready to make sure that prices do not go up. We have already instructed the Food and Supply department to take care of this issue,” he assured.
