Shillong, Dec 12: Meghalaya produced another fine bowling display in the U-19 Women’s One Day Trophy on Monday but again in a losing cause, this time against Baroda.
Fielding first after winning the toss at the famous Arun Jaitley Stadium (formerly the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium) in New Delhi, Meghalaya restricted their larger opponents to 218/8 in 50 overs.
Six bowlers were used in all, five of whom claimed at least one wicket. Blaridahun Dkhar and Emisakani Warjri finished with the exact same figures of 2/45 in 10 overs. Awesa G Momin (1/27), Suriti Kumari Ray (1/33) and Neelam Roy (1/54) were the other wicket-takers.
Meghalaya had reduced Baroda to 135/7 in 34 overs but a strong eighth wicket partnership managed to get the latter past 200.
Unfortunately for Meghalaya, Baroda’s bowling was just too strong on the day. Ray got to 22 while Janika Marak made 12 but Meghalaya were all out for 77 in 34 overs and therefore lost by 141 runs.
Meghalaya’s next and final match will be against Punjab on Wednesday.
