U-25 Col CK Nayudu Trophy: Baroda storm past Meghalaya

Must read

Shillong, Jan 16: Baroda defeated by Meghalaya by an innings and 206 runs on an extraordinary day in the U-25 Col CK Nayudu Trophy in Mangaldai, Assam, on Monday.

Twenty-five wickets fell on Day 2; unfortunately, 20 of these were of Meghalaya.

In the morning, Baroda resumed their first innings on 273/5 and Meghalaya did well to take the last five wickets for just 32 runs and bowl their opponents out for 336.

Manish Sharma, who had taken two wickets on Sunday, bagged two more to finish with figures of 4/90, while PM Santhosh claimed 3/57. He had taken one wicket on Sunday, just like Roshan Warbah (1/28) and Ram Gurung (1/36). The other wicket on Monday went to Aryan Bora (1/76).

Then came Meghalaya’s first innings where they were out for Nelson, i.e. 111 – the last three batters all fell with the scoreboard on the unlucky number. Four batters had decent starts, with Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva top-scoring with 30. He and Kevin Christopher (25) put on 50 for the fourth wicket after Meghalaya were reduced to 7/3 but the side were rapidly dismissed after that, though Sharma (21) and Gurung (14) did give the team some hope.

With a first innings lead of 225, Baroda, unsurprisingly, enforced the follow-on and Meghalaya were totally devastated in their second innings, being all out for a mere 19. Only Roberth Sangma (10) got into double figures as Baroda’s bowlers were imperious.

Meghalaya will now have a long break before taking on Himachal Pradesh from January 29 in their next match.
