U-25 Col CK Nayudu Trophy: Meghalaya vs Haryana in the balance after 20 wickets fall on Day 2

Must read

Shillong, Jan 2: Meghalaya’s match in the U-25 Col CK Nayudu Trophy against Haryana is finely balanced after 20 wickets fell on the second day in Mangaldai Assam, on Monday.

At stumps, Haryana were 18/0 in their second innings, needing a further 171 to win.

On Sunday, Meghalaya made 224 all out, with Kevin Christopher (53) leading the way with a half-century.

Resuming their first innings on 6/0, Haryana were blown away by pace bowler Ram Gurung, who delivered an inspirational bowling performance and figures of 5/37 in 12.5 overs as Haryana were all out for just 126, some 98 runs behind Meghalaya’s first innings total.

Manish Sharma also took 3/14 in 11 overs, while Riboklang Hynniewta (1/7 in 4 overs) and PM Santhosh (1/43 in 10 overs) claimed one wicket each.

Meghalaya, though, had their own batting difficulties in the second innings, as they were all out for 90. It would have been a lot worse if it was not for Christopher, who batted resolutely for 43, which was nearly half of his team’s runs.

Due to the first innings deficit, Haryana were set a target of 189 to win. They faced 8 overs on Monday evening, with Meghalaya trying four different bowlers, but held on without loss and scored 18.
